The utilized VSP technology with addition of the high-performance scanner, the art of hair removal rises to new levels of excellence with treatments that are simultaneously fast, precise and comfortable. Due to their homogenous absorption, deep penetration, and effectiveness with all skin types, Nd:YAG laser treatments are considered to be the gold standard for hair removal treatment. Therefore Fitzpatrick 1-6 skin type patients are eligible for this treatment as well as tanned patients. Our laser’s maximum fluence is 400J/cm² that ensures outstanding treatment results.
How is a LASER different from IPL, PTF, LHE or other light based treatments?
There is often some confusion among our patients when it comes to understanding the difference between IPL and laser hair removal treatments. Both work by producing energy in order to disrupt the growth cycle of each hair follicle to reduce hair growth without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The main differences between Laser and Pulsed light hair removal, lie in the technology that each use to generate the light. Laser machines produce a single wavelength of light for example 1064 nm (pure light consisting of one single color and form), which has a very concentrated beam and specific target (in this case the melanin in hair follicle). Pulsed light machines use a wave band for example 500-1200nm.
Laser hair removal machines are tuned to emit the exact wavelength required to treat the specific cromophore in the hair, so lasers can create more heat directed at the hair follicle than pulsed light (IPL) systems, therefore achieving better results. Since heat is absorbed by the follicle and not the skin, there is a decreased risk of burning. Thus making hair removal lasers a safer option for darker skinned individuals.

How is the treatment carried out?
The treatment is carried out by our qualified laser technician. On your scheduled consultation a trained professional will evaluate your personal situation (if you are a candidate for this treatment) and advise you on the process. You will be informed in detail about the treatment, pre care and aftercare procedures.
Firstly, the area is cleansed and disinfected. The hair needs to be trimmed down to 1-2 mm in length. During the laser treatment you MUST wear protective eyewear! Our laser technician sets treatment parameters and proceed with an initial test shot to determine suitable energy settings. The scanner is placed in contact with skin surface and the laser light emitted onto the skin. The scanner is then moved to the neighboring area and the laser shots are repeated until full coverage of the treatment area is complete.
Who can be treated?
Fitzpatrick 1-6 skin type patients are eligible for this treatment as well as tanned patients.
Very fair hair has less melanin and consequently less heat is produced, simply raising the fluence output from the laser treats such hair. White hair has no melanin and cannot be effectively treated.
What part of the body can be treated?
All body parts can be treated: face, neck, chest, arms, underarms, bikini, legs, back etc.
Does it hurt?
As the light energy is absorbed by the melanin pigment, the discomfort depends upon the concentration of melanin in the hairs. Laser light energy when absorbed turns into heat energy what creates a sensation. Consequently it has more sensation in dark skinned people and those with dense dark hair hairs. However no anesthesia is required and most patients describe the pain as mild and acceptable, it feels much like a rubber band snap or pin-prick with heat sensation.
Do you need to shave prior to the treatment?
YES! Ideally, hairs should be 1 to 2mm long when you come in for the treatment so it is possible to mark out the treatment area. Long hairs take up more of the energy and prevent the full concentration of light energy from reaching to the root of the hair and additionally it can burn on the skin. For this reason it is essential to trim the hair length. The hair should be trimmed just before treatment for maximum transmission of the energy. If the hair is normally shaved and can be seen when shaven, then you can shave right up to the day of treatment. Plucking and bleaching should not be done. Make sure to avoid any other form of epilating and waxing for 4-6 weeks before the treatment. This ensures as many follicles as possible contain hair and melanin, and thus can be destroyed by the light and heat energy.
Do I need to shave my facial hair prior to laser hair removal treatment?
No! Facial hair removal is slightly different. In order to be confident out in public it is best just to trim the hairs for optimal length. Shaving may or may not strengthen vellus hairs. If you are not sure, do not hesitate to contact our staff for more information.
Why do hairs "grow" after treatment?
The heat from the laser kills the roots of the hair but the hairs remain in the skin and often become attached to the epidermis. They will fall out after 1 to 3 weeks as the epidermis renews itself. During this period it will seem that the hairs are growing a little faster as the epidermis pushes them out.
How can you tell if the treatment has worked when the hairs are not removed immediately?
Various indications such as slight edema at the hair follicle site, color of hair becoming charcoal black is often seen a few minutes after the treatment. These are good indications that sufficient heating of the follicles has taken place. But this is not always seen, and there are patients with successful treatments results without these post treatment signs.
What are the possible side effects?
Because of the high intensity of the light used, everybody in the treatment room MUST wear protective goggles or glasses to avoid possible eye injury. Immediately after treatment, redness, minor burning can occur at the treated area and very rarely small blisters like from excessive sun exposure may appear. On the treated area, temporary whitening or darkening of the skin can occur. If the aftercare instructions are NOT carefully followed, color changes may be permanent. Most people experience no side effects at all, and the described skin reactions usually disappear within hours to few days. During your consultation you will be informed about possible side effect and aftercare regimen and all information what you need to know in order to avoid possible side effects.
What are the contraindications?
Certain skin conditions, health irregularities, and medications can impact whether it is safe for a person to receive a permanent hair reduction laser treatment. This list applies to laser treatments.
Try to avoid:
How many treatments are necessary?
Only hairs in the anagen (growth) phase can be treated and the number of hairs in this phase varies from 20% to 90% depending on the location on the body. The lengths of the growth cycles also vary depending on the body location and personal differences. For most people six to eight treatments are sufficient to clear an area of hair. After the first treatment most patients get a significant reduction in hair density and new grown hairs tend to become finer. Individual results may vary.
How to prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?
On your initial consultation you will be given proper pre-care instructions.
Before the treatment shave the treatment area as described previously, but do not wax, pluck, use bleaching creams or epilate 4-6 weeks prior to your treatment. Shaving the treated area is suitable in between treatments. Patients should avoid tanning for 1 month ahead of the treatment and immediately after treatment since the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light. Strong sunlight should be avoided for 4-5 days. Make sure to wear suitable sunscreen when you are out in the sun!
How long does the treatment take?
To treat the facial area it usually takes 10 minutes whereas both legs and an entire back takes approximately 1hour.
Is it permanent?
Most professionals would agree that by using current laser technology it is possible to permanently remove hair. Histological studies have found destroyed and denatured hair follicles cells in post treatment. It is important to know that the treatment is most effective for individuals with stable hormone levels.
During your initial consultation you will receive detailed information of aftercare instructions.
Following the aftercare instructions is STRICTLY your own responsibility and if you do not follow the aftercare instructions you do that at your own risk. The Salon nor their employees are responsible for any loss or damage due to improper aftercare.
